Weekend in Photos

It was a gorgeous weekend here, if not a little hot and sticky. I need some summer dresses pronto. We got our first box of farm goodness from the CSA we joined, took a walk through beautiful Brooklyn Heights, stopped in at Bark's summer hot dog stand and had nostalgic cravings at Dewey's Candy. Seriously, they have every kind of candy you've ever loved. Runts, anyone? Memorial Day was spent working from home, but the day ended with a fantastic meal at The Mermaid Oyster Bar. And just like that, it's summer in New York.

Thoughts of the Week

I think water tastes better when it comes from a pretty bottle.

I hope my summer comes in these colors.

The prettiest wedding food I've seen in a long time.

The prettiest wedding invitations I've seen in a long time.

Must live somewhere with purple nearby.

Everyone should own a hammock.

I seriously had a dream about these berries.

A wedding photo booth with some advice on marriage thrown in, adorable and practical.

Clearly, I still have weddings on the brain. I'll be taking it easy this weekend, no bridesmaid duty, but a kickline in my living room might be called for. What are your long weekend plans?

Summer Camp

Did you go to summer camp when you were a kid? I never did. I wasn't really a fan of the outdoors or physical activity or most people. But my husband recently came across an old episode of This American Life about camp. I had no idea what I was missing.

Minis

I love these dresses from Zara. The patterns, the colors, the cut. Doesn't that first one make you think of a Monet painting? I do think the length leaves something to be desired, but maybe they wouldn't look so short on my non-model legs, and I guess there are always leggings.

The Doors

If I ever live in a real house and not an apartment, the first thing I'm doing is choosing a cool color for my front door. Choosing that color may prove difficult, so for now I'll just stay in my apartment and think about it.

Weekend in Photos

me and the husband busting a move

My feet are blistered and I'm sleep deprived, but I've had a permanent smile on my face since this beautiful wedding that took place on Saturday. Here are a few images from my pals at Reams Photo and some grabbed from Facebook. I can't wait to share more with you as they come in. Isn't she a stunning bride?

Wedding Weekend

My weekend full of bridesmaid duties begins today. It's the vintage-inspired, peacock palette wedding that I've been talking about for months. All the bridesmaids were in charge of their own dresses, so I ended up buying a custom made dress from Etsy shop Dig for Victory. It's just like the one above except it has more of a boat-neck. I actually spotted it last year and included it in a St. Patrick's Day post of all things green. I never thought I'd end up buying one. Blogging is so handy sometimes! I have a petticoat to wear under it for some vintage flair and twirling capabilities. Gold glittery heels, teal jewelry and a messy side bun should complete the look. I can't wait to tell you all about it!

Have a wonderful weekend and thank you for all your sweet words and wishes yesterday! Y'all make me wanna do a hip-hop dance.

Anniversary

Four years ago today, I married this man. Actually, he was probably just a boy then, and I was most definitely just a girl, and most of the time we still feel that way. We live a very grown-up life day to day with jobs and bills and dry cleaning and alarm clocks, but we still feel like kids. We're silly and weird. We do voices and crack jokes to make each other laugh. We make up hip-hop dances. And on occasion, I'll put on his sweat pants, pull them up over my shoulders and run around in circles. We have a strange little life inside our apartment, and it's one of my favorite things about us.

Bridesmaid Hair: Messy Side Bun

Since I'm doing my own hair for my friend's wedding on Saturday, I've been practicing this bun all week. I'm usually helpless when it comes to anything beyond the realm of ponytail, but this look is relatively easy. I started with a standard bun, adding bobby pins at every turn, and this Youtube tutorial proved very helpful for the rest. The loose, messy styling allows room for error. And, it wasn't nearly as difficult as photographing the back of my head in a mirror. I'm feeling pretty good about the look. It's like a cross between a ballerina and Princess Leia, which is what I aspire to in all areas of my life.

Desperately Seeking Sandwich

My first stop on the hunt for the perfect breakfast sandwich may just be my last. It was pretty darn close to perfect. After a few recommendations, I ended up at the cozy and quaint Clinton St. Baking Company. Their sandwich, which arrives open-face, is built upon a crumbly and light buttermilk biscuit, which houses fluffy scrambled eggs, melted cheddar, crispy bacon, and the clincher, a tangy and sweet tomato jam. It's necessary to eat it with a fork and a knife, since it's so big and the biscuit is so crumbly, but no complaints here. It's definitely bordering on breakfast perfection.

Weekend in Photos

For some reason, there was a lot of eating this weekend, which was silly since I have to fit into a bridesmaid's dress on Saturday, but everything was so tasty, I don't regret it one bit. There will just be some extra elliptical time this week.

There was a little street food fest in Madison Square Park, the perfect time to try out Mexican food cart Calexico. Everything was so good! There was a walk through some beautiful parts of Chelsea, followed by a viewing of Bridesmaids and a late night run to Billy's Bakery for cupcakes and some innocent gawking at their other sweets.

Oh, and I did find a breakfast sandwich that is definitely a contender for the world's best. More on that tomorrow.

Also, we have a giveaway winner!
